Privacy Policy
Effective September 20, 2026 · Bank-data disclosure version 2026-08-30.1
Information we collect
Finance Clarity stores the account, profile, financial, and transaction information you provide. If you enable text messaging, we also store your mobile number, verification and consent status, and limited messaging audit information. Message and phone-number hashes are retained for security and troubleshooting; message bodies are not stored in the messaging audit log.
How information is used
We use your information to operate your personal-finance account, calculate account balances, manage register transactions, authenticate you, prevent misuse, and provide features you request.
Shared households
After you accept a household invitation, both members can view and manage shared financial records and bank connections. Only the owner manages household invitations, membership and household deletion. Your profile, bank consent and notification settings remain personal. Joining retains your previous personal financial records separately; removal restores that workspace. We retain change metadata identifying the person, action, record and time. Removing membership does not recall information already viewed or a notification already submitted. Household deletion removes shared financial records but retains personal logins, notification settings and change metadata. Remove shared membership before deleting or deactivating a login.
Service providers
Finance Clarity uses Microsoft services for authentication and hosting, Azure SQL for application data, Twilio for SMS delivery, and OpenAI for optional natural-language interpretation and receipt scanning. Information is shared with these providers only as needed to operate the requested feature.
If you choose Scan receipt, the selected photo and your budget category names are sent to OpenAI to extract the merchant, date and total and suggest a category. Finance Clarity does not save the photo; extracted details are recorded only when you review and save a transaction. The request disables stored API responses, but provider processing and retention are governed by the provider's policies.
Optional bank connections
If you choose to link a bank, we ask for your consent before opening Plaid Link. Plaid connects to your selected institution. We store institution and account names, account types, last digits, provider identifiers, register-account mappings, a protected Plaid access token, and bank activity such as transaction dates, amounts, merchant descriptions, and pending or posted status. We do not store your bank password. Plaid may process additional information under its End User Privacy Policy.
Downloaded bank activity is kept separate from your register and does not change it automatically. It may be used to help you understand spending, match and clear register activity, reconcile accounts, budget, forecast cash flow, and receive alerts. Bank-data consent is separate from authorization to move money. Linking does not initiate a payment or transfer; real automatic transfers are not currently available.
We record your bank-data consent decisions, the disclosure wording and version, your application user identifier, and the time of each decision. You can withdraw linking consent on Bank connections to block new linking requests. Existing stored records and Plaid connections are not automatically deleted or disconnected by that action.
Text messaging
Mobile information and SMS consent are used only to provide Finance Clarity transactional messaging, including opted-in bill-due alerts. They are not sold or shared with third parties for their marketing or promotional purposes. You may opt out by replying STOP.
Your choices
Email bill reminders are optional and require verification of your saved profile email. Azure Communication Services processes your email address and reminder content for delivery. Optional push reminders use your browser’s notification service, such as Apple, Google, Mozilla, or Microsoft. We store an encrypted browser subscription and delivery status to send reminders and prevent duplicate attempts. Notifications contain a general reminder; sign in to view financial details.
Manage email reminders and push on each device in Profile. Changing your profile email disables email reminders until the new address is verified. Push reminders may arrive while you are signed out; disable them before sharing a device. Account deactivation stops future reminder processing, and account deletion removes local preferences and push subscriptions. A provider may still deliver a notification already submitted, and deleting local records does not erase provider records or backups.
You can update your profile information inside the application and stop SMS messages at any time by replying STOP. Reply START to opt back in after completing phone verification, or HELP for assistance.
Retention, deletion, and contact
Use Disconnect bank on Bank connections to remove an entire Plaid connection, including all accounts sharing that connection. This pauses related roundups and preserves your manually entered register. Account deletion first requests removal of each Plaid connection, then removes local application records, including bank-link records and bank-data consent history. If removal cannot be confirmed, affected roundups are paused and the connection credentials are retained so you can retry. Disconnection does not cancel transfers already submitted or confirm erasure of service-provider records or backups. A formal retention schedule is still being developed. For privacy questions, deletion requests, or help disconnecting a provider, contact tina.degryse@yahoo.com. Do not send passwords, access tokens, or full bank-account numbers by email.
Security and changes
Finance Clarity uses reasonable technical safeguards and household and personal-data isolation, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. This policy may be updated as the service changes; the effective date will identify the current version.
